Did a little driving around this past Friday right here in Oklahoma City and finally took some snapshots of local signs. First up is the Wishing Well Motel on NE23rd and Farris (just east of I-35). I spoke with the guys across the street at MTM Welding and they told me that the motel was torn down in 2001. The lot that the motel was on is mostly asphalt and concrete, but the sign is terribly overgrown as you can see here:
This sign doesn't have one of the 'boomerang' arrows but does boast an arrow all of its own. The sign also sports a message board. Since it is overgrown I'm going to try to obtain permission from the owner to see if I can trim some of the vegetation to get some better shots.
Later on I traveled down to Route 66 and took some photos there. First stop was the Carlyle Motel at 39th Expressway (Route 66) just East of Portland.
If you look closely at the MOTEL, you can see two sets of lights in each letter. These letters blink between green & red. I'll have some of these posted tomorrow.
I also took photos of the Arcadia Motel, Norm Smith's Auto Sales, and the Western Motel. All of these will be posted soon.
