Ahh, elections. Nothing like the slinging of mud, the spinning of lies, and the illegal posting of yard signs to get one's blood a-going.
Oklahoma City has a law against posting campaign signs on public right of way. That is why they are called 'yard signs'. On the way home today I saw that one candidate had been very very busy (for the sake of anonimity, I'll refer to him as Stewart Shapiro or SS), in terms of being sign-prolific, he was not unlike a perverse Easter Bunny.
Using a candidate list I located his name & address and then cross-referenced it using an online phone book and gave him a jingle. He wasn't home so I spoke with his lovely wife and told her that since SS had spent so much money on these signs, I was giving him until 9PM to remove them from north Council between 122nd and 113th. At that point I would remove them and keep them. She said that she would let him know.
I left for an errand at 8:30 PM and lo & behold, SS had cleaned up Council between 122nd & 133th. Now how about between 113th & Hefner? It was open season. Seems like there are no laws down there.
On my way back from my errand I stopped and cleaned up the whole mile, Council: 122nd to Hefner. So what did I get?
69 signs. The names? Shapiro, Liebman, Pence, Anthony, Meleen, Barry, Thompson. These are names that you should remember because these folks either:
A) Don't know enough about local laws to follow them (ignorance is now an excuse)
B) Know the laws but don't care.
C) Know the laws and are unable to control their underlings
D) All of the above.
I'll be posting a sign count here tomorrow or Saturday for each of our offenders and keep a running count on this site until the night of the election. But I need some help from other Okies.
Send me suggestions on what to do with the signs and you can also adopt a mile. If everyone picked up these signs daily or 3 times a week, the candidiates would realize that the signs aren't profitable and will quit deluging the countryside with them. I'll also be calling the HQ of each candidate or the candidate themselves and notifying them that Council between 122nd and Hefner is off limits, it's my territory. Mine, I tell you.
