The Canoe Saga
Well, Tuesday I went and did something regarding the Canoe Saga. Haven't heard about the Canoe Saga? Hang on, you will.
Every Tuesday KTOK radio has a 10 minute bit called "Ask the Mayor" where the mayor of Oklahoma City will answer questions. Nice little radio bit. I'm driving to work and get to thinking, "Why not ask the mayor why it is taking so long to get the OKC Canoe law changed?"
I phone in and ask why it would take so long to get a re-written law through to the city council. The mayor asked for some details, so I told him I had been trying to get the law about canoes changed so there was no minimum length requirement. The radio host was flabbergasted that there is law covering this and he suggested that I put my canoe in the water anyway, what would happen? Would I get busted?
I told him I had gotten busted last Sept and have been working since then to get the law changed.He and the weatherman had a field day with this. They were saying things like, "good thing the cops are protecting us from tiny canoes" "No canoes is good canoes" "What about the children that can't afford a big canoe?"
Yesterday, I phoned Jeff Murray of the Parks and Recreation dept who is supposed to be submitting this law to the council, but I got no response. Tomorrow, I call him again and my City Councilman and the Mayor and the news station and the radio again. I've been waiting since Oct to get this law changed and it's supposed to be 70+ degrees this weekend and I want to go out on the water.
